In 1961, interior designer Christiane Gautrot, painter Desmond Knox-Leet and theater director and set designer Yves Coueslant, who were all friends, jointly established a store at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris to display their designs and creations. At the beginning of its establishment, Diptyque did not make fragrances. The reason was very simple. The three of them were all laymen in perfume. In 1963, Diptyque began to produce handmade candles. Because of its high quality and elegant fragrance, it soon became famous all over the world. Now it has become a leader in the scented candle industry.
