Company Level New Balance Rebel Fuelcell Rebel V4 Comfortable, Stylish Fabric, Shock-Absorbing, and Durable Low-Top Marathon Lightweight Running Shoe. New Balance first released the Rebel in the summer of 2016. At a time when the footwear industry was still transitioning to springy foams that emphasized energy return, the Rebel was truly a rebel. Fast forward to 2017, and the Rebel V4 promised a lighter, more resilient run thanks to a reformulated midsole compound and a taller stack height. Like the New Balance Sc Elite V4, the Rebel V4 offered a completely redesigned midsole compound. The latest blend combines New Balance's proprietary Fuelcell foam (a blend of PTFE and EVAP) with Peba foam for a bouncier run. Peba is an ultra-light, high-performance foam commonly found in carbon-plated supershoes like the New Balance Rebel V4, Asics Novablast 4, and Brooks Hyperion. Max are all energetic, electroless sneakers that shine during speed workouts and up-tempo workouts. All three shoes rely on their midsole foam and slight rocker shape to create a forward-rolling feel. And while the shoes vary in stack height and weight, they offer a similar ratio of soft to firm with enough pop to push the pace.
