This classic millennium shoe is most iconic for its exposed air cushioning in the sole, featuring the classic Shox cushioning midsole system. The Shox series can be traced back to 1984, when designer Bruce Kilgore began researching the Shox project. The shoe is said to have been inspired by observing the bounce of indoor track sprinters after impacting a track surface. However, finding a material that provides sufficient support was a challenge until polyurethane was adopted, allowing the Shox cushioning midsole system to be developed.
